Getting Started on the Cluster

In this section, we cover how you, as a member of the ICP, can gain access to and start using the HPC facilities at the institute. The section is broken up into two components:

  1. Getting credentials for the cluster

  2. Accessing the cluster for the first time.

Getting credentials

As an ICP user alone you do not have the ability to access the cluster. This access can be granted by Frank Huber. When setting your password, consider using a different one from that of your main icp account, as this will help with security.

Accessing the cluster

Once you have your credentials, you will probably want to log on for the first time. This can be achieved most easily through ssh in the terminal. First, press Ctrl+Alt+Tab on your keyboard to open the terminal. Then, run the following from the terminal that opens:

ssh ant

After pressing Enter, a line will appear on the screen asking for your password. Type in your password here remembering that, as this is a Unix system, it will not appear on the screen as you type.
